Thinking About Buying a Blender?
When I first heard about green drinks, I thought they were disgusting concoctions for hardcore veggie militants. Yeah, you know the ones who have the discipline to eat exclusively organic, raw foods in all the right seasons? I thought those people were over the top.
I mean, I eat my veggies every day at dinner and sometimes even at lunch. Why would I need a veggie drink? Well, you can imagine my shock when I found out my body pH was acidic. Acidic?! What does that even mean?
Your perfect blood pH level should be around 7.3. The optimum pH of your saliva and urine should be around 6.8 to 7.0. If your pH goes below these levels, you have excess acidity and when it goes above these levels you are too alkaline.
When you are excessively acidic, your body is affected at the cellular level. Your cells can stop functioning, stop regenerating, change their structure or die off. This opens you up to a whole host of diseases including osteoporosis and cancer.
When you are too alkaline, you can develop calcium deposits in the body as well as confusion and light-headedness. With even more excessive alkalinity you can fall into a catatonic stupor and even a coma. But these days, too much alkalinity is much less common than too much acidity.
How to Eat (Drink) 10 Serving s of Veggies per Day
I consider myself a pretty healthy person. I exercise several times a week, I eat pretty healthy food – a lot of it organic, but not all – I have a great family and I don’t have a stressful job. How could I be acidic? A big part of it is that I don’t eat enough veggies, which are very alkaline foods. That’s because it’s hard to eat 3 to 5 servings of vegetables a day.
Can you imagine eating 5 cups of leafy green veggies every single day? I could do it one day, maybe two, but every day? No way. I wouldn’t have room for the rest of my meal and that would get boring quick. But I could drink that much greens every day.
I talked to a friend of mine who is one of those nutritionally disciplined people I was talking about earlier. She also happens to be an MD and a licensed acupuncturist. She recommended a power horse of a blender called Vitamix and handed me a green drink recipe.
One of the best ways to achieving perfect pH balance is to eat alkaline foods like vegetables. Armed with my Vitamix Blender and my green drinks, I’m on my way.
