Can You Use a Blender as a Food Processor?
When people ask this question, it’s a serious one because the wrong answer can have potentially dangerous consequences. A blender is designed to blend together ingredients. The more powerful blenders can even chop up ice along with other ingredients.
A decent food processor will often take on these tasks as well, but since it tends to be for food preparation, most people don’t use it for a smoothie too.
But using a blender as a food processor to save countertop space and to save money? This is something you should reconsider. A medium to low quality blender is not going to be able to handle the ingredients that you might have put in a food processor. The blades might get warped and the motor on the blender might work too hard to blend the ingredients. Pretty soon, you will end up with a blender that just doesn’t work.
Here are some rules:
- Food processors are for food. And smoothies, in a pinch.
- Blenders are for green drinks, the higher power blenders are for ice smoothies.
- Lower quality blenders will work for basic juice blending, without ice.
If you’re committing to a healthier way of life, you need to remember that the right tools are as essential as the right ingredients.
