Can You Use a Blender for Smoothies?
For many people, the difference between a drink and a smoothie might seem unimportant. But when you want to make a smoothie, you want to be certain that your blender can keep up. After all, blending ingredients is one thing, but blending ice with those ingredients can become a more complicated process. The good news? It doesn’t have to be.
The Smoothie Solution
If you’re interested in making green drink a part of your life for a while, you might want to look at the high quality blenders available as an investment in your health. Yes, they can cost more than $300 each, but blenders like those from Vitamix will be able to handle all of the ingredients you want, including ice.
In order to chop up and to blend ice, you need to have a stronger motor, one that allows you to cut through the ice, without damaging the blades, even if you forget to add in water or another liquid. With cheaper blenders, you will warp the blades and you will eventually have a blender that stops mid-blend.
Know Your Blender
Before you begin blending, think about the power of your blender and then make a decision based on what you can or can not blend. Blenders with a higher horsepower can handle more than that cheap one you found at the drugstore.
And if you want to go the cheap route, stay away from blending ice. Or start hammering it out on the counter first to get it into tinier pieces before you add it to a lower quality blender.
