How Do I Choose the Right Blender?
How Do I Choose the Right Blender for Me?
Choosing the right blender for you is like choosing the right partner in life. But instead of waiting for the right person to come to you, you need to reach out to find the best blender.
Here are a few things you should keep in mind when you start your shopping adventure.
Motors – You need to understand the power you have available to you when you blend. This is often measured in horsepower or in watts. Or both. To make things easier, you want to have the highest horsepower and wattage you can find. This will ensure you can crush ice when you’re blending and that your blender will last for a long time. Ideally, this is where you should spend your money
Blades – Each blender will come with blades, but some blenders may come with blades that don’t need to be changed or sharpened, even with heavy use. Check to see what the blades are designed to handle, i.e. wet vs. dry ingredients. Some of this will be a personal choice, of course. If you’re not sure what you need, then choose a blender with a two-blade option or interchangeable blades.
Operation – As you blend ingredients, you will want to have the option to speed things up or slow things down, which means you need different speed settings. Even though you may not know how to use these effectively at first, it’s a good thing to have more than one option.
Noise – Many blenders will tell you they are quiet or that they have low noise levels. But the truth is that all blenders are going to make some noise. When they do, you will need to decide whether this is something that bothers you, or if you can manage the noise when you blend away from those who might hear the process. (Also, it’s hard to say what is ‘noisy’ and what is ‘quiet.’ Sometimes, you don’t know what the noise levels will be like until you bring the blender home, so even the ones that are listed as ‘quiet’ may not be as quiet as you’d like them to be.
Containers – Studies have now shown that BPA can leach into foods prepared in containers with this chemical, causing hormonal disruptions and potential other health problems. Look to see what the containers are made from so you can make an informed decision. You might also prefer square containers to round containers. Again, consider your personal preference here.
Warranties – Though no blender will be guaranteed to last forever, you will want to look at the warranties available and see if that matches up to the time you hope the blender will last. Check to see what the warranty covers, and see if it’s suitable to your needs and expectations.
The more you can look at the options and specifications for each blender, the more of a smart decision you can make. You need to choose the right blender for your unique needs, but it never hurts to remember what your options are. (And what they mean.)
